Since its founding in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii as the birthplace of Japanese whisky, Yamazaki Distillery has always carried a pioneering spirit. And nowhere is that spirit more evident than in its century-long relationship with Spanish Oak — a bond that has been long, intimate, and essential to what makes Yamazaki, Yamazaki.

Over 100 years of continuous refinement, the distillery's makers have built a deep understanding of how different cask woods shape a spirit's character. This latest limited release, the Yamazaki Refill Spanish Oak, is the newest chapter in that exploration — and it reveals a surprisingly different dimension of Spanish Oak's influence.

Where Spanish Oak is typically associated with weight and richness, this expression takes the opposite path. By using refill Spanish Oak casks — barrels that have already been used once before — Yamazaki uncovers a lighter, brighter, more fruit-forward character. The result is a vibrant expression that explores the bright and fruity notes of the distillery's finest refill casks.

How Rare Is It Really?

 

Only 3,000 bottles were released globally. Of those, just 240 bottles landed in Singapore — and the split is even tighter than the headline number suggests:

• 60% (144 bottles) allocated to trade — restaurants and bars

• 40% (96 bottles) available directly to B2C / consumer hands

Notably, this release cannot be found at the airport — a channel that usually carries a good share of limited Suntory releases. That makes local trade and retail allocations the only realistic way to get your hands on a bottle.

And once it's gone, it's gone: this is confirmed as a one-off release, with no repeat batches planned.
